NORTHPORT, AL (WBRC) -

Firefighters quickly put out a house fire in Northport on Tuesday afternoon.

The house fire was in the 4700 block of Emerald Bay Drive in the Northwood Lake neighborhood, Captain Jason Norris with Northport Fire and Rescue said.

The fire appears to have started in the carport around 4 p.m. Firefighters made a "quick stop" on the fire, preventing it from spreading into the home.

No one was home at the time and there were no injuries. Firefighters were able to rescue two pet cats from inside the house. Three engines, a rescue unit and a command vehicle responded to the scene.

Captain Norris says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
