BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

There is a slight risk for severe weather across Central Alabama on Thursday.

A cold front is moving towards Alabama from the Northwest, while the state experiences extremely high temperatures. As the cold front hits the warmer air, it will bring a line of showers and storms.

Dramatically colder air is coming into our state from the west, according to an afternoon weather update from FOX6 Chief Meteorologist J-P Dice.

Dice says temperatures right now in Birmingham are around 77 degrees, but temperatures in Memphis are in the 40s.

In Tuscaloosa, 80 degrees became the new record high for this time of the year. The previous record of 77 degrees was set in 1954, Dice tweeted.

All of the Fox6 viewing area will be under the slight risk of severe weather with the main threat expected to be gusty winds. Dice says there should not be much tornadic activity.
