TROY, AL (WSFA) -

Troy police confirm they are investigating an incident at an off-campus apartment involving a Troy University student.

According to Chief Jimmy Ennis, officers responded to the report of a burglary in the 400 block of Jane Road at approximately 4:45 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the female student was sleeping and woke up to find a man in her room. The student screamed and when her roommates came to see what was happening, the man bolted out of the apartment.

The student wasn't injured. Police said the suspect was wearing a dark color tank top and red gym shorts.

Troy University issued a safety message to students Thursday.

University Police Chief John McCall said in a statement that there have been some minor instances of property vandalism on campus. McCall said the events "may or may not be connected" but wanted to take the opportunity to remind students, faculty and staff to be vigilant.
