GURLEY, AL (WAFF) -

The Madison County coroner confirmed Thursday night that the police chief of Gurley is dead.

The coroner said Buddy Deen was found dead of an apparent suicide Thursday.

The Mayor of Gurley, Robert Sentell, made a statement in which he offered condolences to Deen's family on behalf of the Town of Gurley, the police department and employees.

Sentell announced Thursday that Cheryl Woodall has been named interim chief.

An official statement from the Madison County Sheriff's Department confirmed that no foul play was suspected in Deen's death and an investigation is ongoing.
