BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Calera Police Department says they are investigating the shooting death of a 40-year-old woman.

Calera Police have identified the victim as Lisa M. Langston of Clanton. Officers say they have charged Demetrius Raishaud Watson, 22, of Calera with her murder.

The shooting happened on Thursday night around 6 p.m. at a home on Slab Hill Road. Officers were called to the area on a complaint of a disturbance. Upon their arrival, officers located Langston, dead, in a yard.

Trinita March, a neighbor, remembers seeing police but thought they were clearing up an accident. When she learned about the shooting, she said it frightened her a little, especially since she just moved into the neighborhood in October.

"I'm just moving over here and I really thought it was community which I don't doubt that it is. Crime can happen anywhere but...I guess I'll be more mindful and look at my surroundings," March said.

Watson remains in the Shelby County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

At this time, Calera PD is not releasing any additional information.
