HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville's first open enrollment health insurance fair was held on Sunday at Crestwood Medical Center.

Enroll Alabama launched the campaign "Get Covered Alabama" to educate consumers about health insurance coverage, the new options available under the Affordable Care Act and to assist those who were enrolling.

The AIDS Action Coalition helped residents through the process of enrolling, and computer work stations were available so people could access the Healthcare.gov website.

Insurance plans offered through the health insurance Exchange will cover doctor visits, preventative care, hospital stays, prescriptions and more. Financial assistance will also be available for many residents. Enroll Alabama will have staff and volunteers around the state helping consumers and working with organizations.

Mary Elizabeth Marr of the AIDS Action Coalition said they had excellent results. "It takes a period of time to get through the website, not because it's slow or anything. It's fairly complicated," Marr said. "You either do it yourself or you need a navigator to help you through this system." Marr was one of those navigators.

The fair took place inside the Maternity Center and lasted from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
