MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A 12-year-old Glendale student who was reported missing from her school Monday morning has been found safe.

Sarina Ehler was located by a Maricopa County sheriff's deputy in the area of 219th Avenue and Sun Valley Parkway Monday afternoon. The deputy was on his way home when he saw Sarina pushing a bike into a desert area. Sarina gave the deputy a false name, MCSO said.

Eventually a records check confirmed that it was Sarina and she was returned to the custody of her parents. There are no charges pending in this incident.

The young girl only had a small bottle of water for the long hours she had traveled, MCSO said.

Sarina has been missing since about 7:30 a.m. after she didn't return from a restroom at a school near 7200 W. Rose Garden Ln. Glendale police did not identify the school.

Investigators said they believe Sarina left the school, returned home, retrieved her bicycle and left on her own.

Officers learned that Sarina was punished at home Sunday night.
