BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Birmingham Fire Department is responding to a structure fire in the northwest part of the city Tuesday afternoon.

The fire is in the 500 block of Tuscaloosa Avenue SW and 5th Street SW. Firefighters got the call about the fire just before 4 p.m. When fire crews responded to the scene, the second story of the building was fully involved.

Authorities on the scene say the building was vacant and it is believed that no one was inside. Officials say the fire may have been caused by a homeless person trying to get warm.
