OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) -

The snow may not be falling but it's still cold outside. Cold shelters are open to those who need a warm place to stay.

FOX19's Miranda Del Pozo was live in Over-the-Rhine this morning with how residents can stay warm in these freezing temperatures.

About twenty people spent the night at the city's newest cold shelter at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Over-the-Rhine.

The shelter opens every night at 8:00 p.m. for residents to find a safe place to warm up.

About $50,000 was provided from the city to build the shelter along with an additional $75,000 raised by the church to keep it open every night through the month of February.

Del Pozo warns residents to protect themselves from hypothermia and frost bite this season.

Symptoms of hypothermia include:

  • Shivering
  • Clumsiness
  • Slurred speech
  • Drowsiness
  • Slowed, shallow breathing
