LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Three people from Florida have been arrested in Limestone County, accused of stealing six lawnmowers from a department store.

Deputies discovered an overturned lawnmower on the roadway of Highway 72 near Limestone Creek around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. While on the scene, they observed a U-Haul truck towing a trailer with an identical mower improperly secured.

Upon stopping the vehicle, deputies noticed the tag on the trailer had been altered. A serial number check revealed the trailer had been stolen out of Decatur.

The Athens Police Department notified deputies that six lawnmowers had been stolen from the Athens Sears store earlier in the night. The other four mowers were later discovered behind a motel in Huntsville.

Arely Rojas, Reinaldo Velez and Miguel Ortiz, all of Miami, were arrested and charged with receiving stolen property by Limestone County officials. The Athens Police Department is also charging them with the theft of the lawnmowers.
