MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Madison Police have arrested two women in an embezzlement case going back approximately six years.

Toi Garth of Madison and Dianne Johnson of Athens were employed by a local company, and over the course of six years, reportedly stole over $1 million from their employer.

The investigation began when the company noted discrepancies in financial statements and hired an outside accounting firm to audit their records. The audit allegedly revealed that the thefts were committed by Garth and Johnson.

Both women turned themselves in at the Madison Police Department Wednesday upon completion of the investigation. They were charged with first-degree theft and taken to Metro Jail.

Bond for each woman has been set at $30,000.
