ALEXANDER CITY, AL (WSFA) -

The Alabama Department of Corrections says an inmate in the custody of the Alexander City Community Based Facility is missing one day after he was denied parole.

John Earl Christian, 46, is a minimum custody inmate who was allowed to work outside the facility as a van driver transporting other inmates to and from work release locations, according to ADOC.

The Phenix City Police Department contacted ADOC Thursday morning at 9:45 after finding the transport van abandoned on Crawford Road in Phenix City.

The van was empty and the doors were locked. Christian couldn't be located in the area.

Christian is described as a while male, 6' tall, 180 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

He is serving a life sentence for robbery out of Jefferson County and has served more than 20 years. He was denied parole on Thursday and a rehearing was scheduled for 2018.
