BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Thirty-two recruits graduated from the Birmingham Police Academy on Friday, Dec. 13.

The recruit class 97-129 graduated in a ceremony in the East Ball Room of the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center today at 11 a.m.

The guest speaker at the graduation was U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance. Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper lead them in the oath of office and presented the grads with their badges after they walked across the stage.

The men and women completed their training in 17 weeks instead of the normal 20 weeks, because Chief Roper wanted to get them on the streets before Christmas.

Four of the graduates are the sons of police officers.
