According to a criminal complaint filed by the U.S. District Court of Kansas, a man was arrested at Wichita, Kansas' Mid-Continent Airport Friday afternoon after attempting to drive a vehicle onto the tarmac that he believed was loaded with explosives.

Officials at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport said in a press conference Friday that 58-year-old Terry Loewen, an aviation technician at the airport, was attempting to detonate a bomb in one of the airport's terminals. Officials say the suspect was self-radicalized and had no extensive plan.

The explosives the man was trying to detonate were fake and part of an FBI sting. Loewen has previously engaged in online conversation who unbeknownst to him is an FBI agent. During such engagements, he expressed his desire to to engage in violent jihad, or holy war, on behalf of Al Qaeda.

Charges against Loewen include attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction against people and property within the United States, attempting to maliciously damage or destroy a building, vehicle, and property used in an activity affecting interstate and foreign commerce, and attempting to provide material support and resources to Al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), a foreign terror organization.
