NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin Director of Athletics Robert Hill has announced the hiring of Clint Conque as the 19th head football coach of the Lumberjacks. Conque comes to SFA from Central Arkansas where he served as head coach the last 14 seasons.

"Our goal was to find someone who had previous head coaching experience and a successful record," Hill said. "Coach Conque not only has a proven record as a head coach, he also has had great success in the Southland Conference. He is familiar with SFA, and he recruits heavily in Texas. He is the perfect package."

Conque is the winningest coach in UCA history, amassing 105 wins over his 14 years leading the program to a .640 winning percentage. Under his leadership the Bears won the Southland Conference Championship in 2008 and 2012 and made back-to-back FCS Playoff appearances in 2011 and 2012.

He has been named conference coach of the year three times, twice in the Southland and garnered NCAA Regional Coach of the Year in 2008. Conque also was a finalist for national coach of the year honors in 2005, 2008 and 2012.

"First and foremost, I am excited about the opportunity to come to Nacogdoches and help build upon the great tradition of SFA Football and their athletics. I've always felt SFA could be one of the crown jewels in the Southland Conference," Conque said. "I appreciate the opportunity provided to me and my family by Dr. Baker Pattillo and Robert Hill, Steve McCarty and the Board of Regents. Hopefully, we can bring a consistent winner to Nacogdoches and build something that our students, alumni and fan base can be proud of. It's just a tremendous opportunity."

Prior to UCA moving up to the FCS level, Conque led the Bears to the NCAA Division II Playoffs in 2001 and 2005. His proven track record of success made him the longest tenured coach in UCA and Southland Conference history. While he was head coach at UCA, the Bears were the winningest program in the state of Arkansas since 2000.

Conque graduated from Nicholls State where he was an All-American linebacker and inducted into the schools hall of fame in 2005. He had a brief professional career in the NFL playing for the Los Angeles Raiders.

Hill and Conque will have an official introductory press conference on at 2 p.m. Thursday in the SFA Fieldhouse to introduce Conque to local media and fans.

Conque and his wife Angele' have three sons Chasse, Benton and Zach. The couple has two grandchildren, twins Julianna and Sydney, from Chasse and his wife Lisa.
