Girl, 5, looking out window because she heard gunfire hit by bullet

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

The grandmother of a 5-year-old girl who was shot by a stray bullet said she is recovering.

The child, who lives in DeKalb County, heard gunshots and looked out her window to see what was going on was struck by a bullet late Sunday.

It happened at about 7:30 p.m. at the Highlands at East Atlanta apartment complex in the 2000 block of Flat Shoals Road.

Police said the child was shot in the shoulder when as she was looking through a bedroom window.

Paramedics transported the girl to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. She is expected to survive her wound, police said.

Police do not have any information on a motive or suspects.
