WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) -

Tuesday will be a busy day in the city of Wetumpka as the new Wind Creek Casino officially opens. Officials are expecting huge crowds for the grand opening.

As a result, Wetumpka police are expecting massive traffic delays on Highway 231.

They're advising anyone who does not have to travel 231 through Wetumpka to avoid the area. Those commuters should seek an alternate route.

Alabama State Troopers, while aware of the possibility of increased traffic, tells WSFA 12 News that it has no plans in the area other than routine patrols.

While the multi-million dollar casino opens Tuesday, the adjoining hotel won't open until January.
