ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Georgia Lottery officials announced the name of the Georgia Mega Millions winner on Wednesday.

Ira Curry of Stone Mountain will walk away with $120 million after taxes.

Curry bought her ticket at a newsstand in Buckhead. Her one ticket was a last minute purchase and the numbers she picked were comprised of family members' birthdays and their lucky number.

The other lucky winner was sold in California. That winner has not come forward.

The winning numbers were 8, 14, 17, 20, 39, and the Mega Ball 7.

Optimists and dreamers lined up at gas stations, mini-marts and drug stores Monday for the last-minute Mega Millions ticket-buying frenzy.

In fact, so many lined up that by midday Tuesday, the jackpot jumped from $586 million to a whopping $636 million. Their strategies for winning vary. Some take it seriously. Some say they leave it to "Lady Luck."

Jimmy Coney of Atlanta bought 40 tickets at a Marathon Gas station on Northside Drive in Midtown.  "My strategy is to go to four different stores and spend about $40 at each store. The last store is where I'll spend $100, all Quick Pick. The other ones I pick the numbers based on watching videos off of YouTube." He says then he goes with those number combinations that "speak to me most."

In contrast, Ricky Ledbetter bought 10 tickets at the Marathon and said he has no strategy.  "Sometimes Quick Pick, sometimes whatever numbers come to my head."

Experts say what drives people to play is the same thing that drives people to gamble: the fantasy of quickly improving your life amid financial anxieties and uncertainty.

The huge Mega Millions prize stems from a major game revamp in October that dramatically reduced the odds of winning.
