Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wednesday night will feature the coldest weather of the week. A very warm high pressure system will build for the weekend. A cold front will bring our highest rain chances of the period on or around next Monday.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Expect clear skies, calm winds, and frosty-cold low temperatures mainly in the upper 20s for Bladen, Columbus, and inland Pender Counties. Inland Brunswick and inland New Hanover Counties will likely bottom-out near 30. Beaches: lower and middle 30s.

LATE WEEK AND WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS: Expect sunny 60s for Thursday. Temperatures will break into the 70s as early as Friday but almost certainly for Saturday and Sunday (Saturday's record is 76 and Sunday's is 80). Ironically, winter officially begins at 12:11pm Saturday!

OUTLOOK FOR CHRISTMAS WEEK: Monday will likely have showers and high temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Drier and more seasonably cooler weather will follow Monday's rain system (example: Christmas Day: lows in the 30s, highs in the 50s, 10% shower chance).
WHITE CHRISTMAS WATCH: Though temperatures are likely to trend toward slightly cooler levels for Christmas Eve into Christmas Day, the chance of a White Christmas is near 0% this year. The chance of a White Christmas in any given year in southeastern North Carolina is 1 - 2%.
