City crews responded to a major sewage spill Tuesday at lift station 158 at 105 Crossroads Parkway.
An estimated 13,656 gallons of sewage spilled due to a lift station control failure at sanitary sewer station 158, which resulted in four manholes on Crossroads Parkway to overflow, according to a city news release.
The spill is classified as major under the Georgia Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
City Water and Sewer crews were notified at 9:39 a.m. and it was fixed at 10:03 a.m. Notices about the sewage spill were posted at St. Augustine Creek at US 21, lift station 158 at 105 Crossroads Parkway and at Houlihan Bridge Boat Ramp.
Water sampling is being performed to determine the impact of the spill. All agencies required by the EPD to be notified were alerted about the spill.
