Wastewater tests in Prattville

MGN Online MGN Online
PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

Prattville's Wastewater Department will be conducting a smoke test during the coming weeks.

The department will be conducting the smoke testing in the overlook area over the next two weeks.

This smoke is non-toxic and allows the crews to see if there is a crack or break in the sewer mains. If you see smoke coming out of a manhole in the grass of your yard, roof vent of your house, or out of the toilet or drains of your bathroom call the department's administrative office at 334-595-0480.

Smoke should only be inside a home if the bathroom is not regularly used. The p-trap may get dried out and will allow the smoke through to be visibly emitted.

To prevent the visible smoke inside an unused bathroom run the water in the sink and shower for a minute and flush the toilet.

Residents should have received a letter a few days ago. Any questions should be directed to the Wastewater crews at 334-595-0641.
