SHELBY COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -
A 32-year-old Hoover man was arrested last week on sodomy charges after Shelby County investigators began investigating a sex abuse case.
A deputy responded to a report of child sex abuse at a home in Westover on Friday, Dec. 6.
A week later, deputies arrested Jason Michael Hankins in connection to the case. Investigators say there was a "pre-existing family relationship" between Hankins and the victim, but they have not given any other details about the relationship. They have not released the age of the victim.
Hankins was arrested on Friday, Dec. 13 at the Shelby County Sheriff's Office on charges of first degree sodomy, production of obscene matter containing visual depiction of person under 17 years of age involved in obscene act and distribution of material harmful to minors.
Hankins was released on a $123,000 bond on Saturday, Dec. 14. Also on Saturday, investigators with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and Hoover Police served search warrants at two homes and obtained evidence that is still being reviewed.
