(WMC-TV) - Some residents have observed a crowded Overton Square, but that most people are still fighting for parking despite a new garage that offers 451 spaces.

Midtown resident, Megan Thomson, said she even carpools with friends because trying to park on Monroe Avenue from Cooper Avenue to Cox Street is a nightmare.

"Well I just live down the street, and it's crazy driving. So I usually just walk the few blocks down," she said.

But the masses who flock to Overton Square are not using it.

Loeb Properties is managing the garage operations for the city of Memphis.

Their community relations director, Elizabeth Berglund, said in a statement, "We've made some recommendations to the City about on-street parking in regards to pedestrian safety and will continue to work with them to find solutions for our patrons and area businesses."

Motorists say there are no visible signs at night drawing drivers to park in the garage; plus they say it costs $3.

"If we can still park for free, we 're gonna park free," said Memphis resident Johnathan Hill.
