MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A Myrtle Beach man is facing assault and battery charges for beating a woman who would not let him drive her car.

According to the Myrtle Beach police report, 41-year-old Emerson Huntbey got into an argument with a woman around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19. That woman would not let Huntbey drive her car because he was intoxicated.

She claims in the report that he beat her with a closed fist and choked her, both acts leaving injuries visible to the police officers. She ran outside and tried to drive away, but Huntbey followed her and allegedly slashed two of her tires.

She called police from a nearby gas station and officers found Huntbey at the Hawthorne Lane apartment where the assault occurred. He is charged with second degree assault and battery.
