HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - As teachers in Horry County Schools wrap things up for the winter holiday, one high school teacher in Conway was surprised with the Golden Apple award.

Timothy Graham is an Algebra teacher at Early College High School.

A student who says she hates math nominated him because he makes the subject seem useful and interesting through his interactive approach.  The student says Graham makes sure every student understands the lesson before moving on and that he has a great sense of humor.

She says, "After half of a semester, my grade was nearly an A," and that she would never have been ready for the college level math if it weren't for him.

Humbled by the nomination, Graham had this to say about why he got into teaching. "I always loved going to school. I had a lot of good mentors. My uncle was a teacher for many years, and I also go into coaching as well."

Congratulations to all of this school year's Golden Apple award winners.
