COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Students at Baker Middle School in Columbus are getting the chance to cash in their good behavior for Christmas presents.

Students can earn "Baker Bucks" when they perform good deeds or show a positive attitude.

Kids then get a chance to trade in their bucks for items at the school's store.

We spoke to principal Tamura Magwood about the program.

"Punishment had not been curbing the behavior issues," said Magwood.  "What we wanted to do was put something positive in place, and the hope is that this positive strategy will then get the kids to see that there are rewards in being a good student, showing good citizenship."

Magwood says she's noticed an improvement since the program started. The store will be open for the rest of the school year.
