ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

UPDATE: The family of a teen who went missing in Anderson County said the girl was home safe Sunday morning after deputies said she staged her disappearance. Read the updated story here.

A teen is missing from Anderson County on Thursday and the sheriff's office is asking the public for help locating her.

Haley Michelle Hilton, 16, was last seen in the Appleton area of the county, the sheriff's office said.

Hilton was last seen wearing black and white Nike shoes, a burgundy cotton zip-up jacket over a nylon camouflage zip-up jacket over a gray and purple zip-up sweater with a hood (purple front, dark gray shoulders and light gray arms) over a pink Abercrombie shirt, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies said Haley was last seen in a silver four door vehicle.

She is described as being 5'3" and weighs 115 pounds.

FOX Carolina reporters talked to Hilton's family who said they believe the teen was abducted from in front of their house. According to the teen's grandfather and 13-year-old sister, Hilton was pulled into a car by men asking for directions. The family members said they attempted to pull her from the car but were unsuccessful.

The teen's family also told FOX Carolina that she had received phone calls from a private number the previous week where she was threatened to be abducted.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said they do not know if the person Hilton left with is a threat or not, so they are asking for the community's help locating her.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Hilton is asked to call the Anderson County Sheriff's Office at 864-260-4400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC (274-6372).
