LACEYS SPRING, AL (WAFF) -

The search for Franklin Payne continued in Morgan County Thursday. The 74-year-old Lacey's Spring man was last seen by family members around 1am on December 10th near his home on Pinehill Circle. Payne suffers from dementia.

Thursday, the sheriff's office used a helicopter, ground searchers, dogs, and called in volunteers with the Morgan County Sheriff's Posse to ride horses into the wooded areas around Payne's home.

Sheriff Ana Franklin said they have been taking advantage of good weather this week to intensify the search. Franklin said if they don't find him Thursday, they would bring in boats and begin searching ponds and the river on Friday, weather permitting.

"We're trying to eliminate possible areas in the wooded areas and the creeks and ponds surrounding his home, in the last location he was last seen. And that way when we get something eliminated, we can move on to the next thing," Franklin said.

Authorities believe Payne was wearing black pants, a dark colored shirt, and black shoes. He is 5'10" and weighs 175 pounds, with blue eyes, white hair and a white beard. He has a skull and crossbones tattoo on one hand, and is known to tell people he is 47 years old. Authorities believe he took his two small dogs with him. The dogs have since found their way back home.
