(WMC-TV) - There are new concerns over the municipal school districts.

All but one municipal school district in Shelby County continues their search for a new superintendent. Teachers are worried about the security of their jobs once a new leader is put in place.

Like all newly formed municipal school districts in Shelby County, change is coming to Millington High School.

"I think things are just fine the way they are," said grandparent Johnnie Vernon. "I have two grandchildren that go here. They love their teachers."

Millington High PTSA president Lisa Hudson says teachers, who survived a round of cuts when the Memphis and Shelby County School District merged, fear for their jobs all over again.

"There's going to be a huge surplus of teachers with so much movement between the municipal school and now with Shelby County," said Hudson.

Teacher salaries in municipal school districts are protected by state law. They cannot get less than what Shelby County is already paying them, but the concern is whether that pay check will keep coming.

"I think it's going to be unsettling for the students. I think the teachers that are here should stay here," said parent June Schwager.

The decision on how schools will be staffed could be up to each district's superintendent, which is a position that is yet to be filled in all but one municipal district.
