Bulloch County BOE holds second meeting about religious expression

The Bulloch County superintendent and school attorney outlined the laws and court rulings on how teachers can express their religious faith Thursday night in a public meeting.

Many at the meeting were in attendance two weeks ago when concerned citizens spoke out against what they felt were unfair restrictions on teachers.

Both sides said the discussion has been productive.

"We've hear the people's concerns," said Superintendent Charles Wilson. "We have discovered some concerns that legitimately needed to be addressed, clarified, corrected. We appreciate the fact that people have done that."

"Right now, we are content that we are on the same page with the board of education," said concerned parent Jon Cook. "It's those gray areas that we really feel the board needs to leave it up to the individual situation."

The debate started when a national group protested a picture of a school leader praying with students.
