LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Several area weather alert systems are out of order ahead of Saturday's potential severe weather.

The Limestone County Emergency Management Agency warned residents that two area tornado sirens are not operational at this time.

The sirens in question are Number 1001 at Miller Lane off of Highway 251 and Number 1012 at Miller Road off of Holt Road.

The EMA said the sirens are out of order due to lightning damage and mechanical failure, respectively. Parts have been ordered to replace the defective sirens, but they are not due to be working again until sometime in January.

Residents in those areas are warned not to rely on the sirens in case of severe weather at this time.

Colbert County EMA tweeted later Friday evening that the Shoals area NOAA weather radio was offline. A technician was able to fix the issue, and EMA officials said Saturday morning that their weather radio system is back in operation but that some users may still experience spotty reception.

The 48 Storm Team Weather App and text alerts can help keep you weather aware even if the power goes out. If those options aren't available to you, but you have a battery-operated radio, we have partnered with several radio stations across the Tennessee Valley who will switch to our weather coverage when situations warrant.
