The holiday celebrations for two Tucson families came a tragic halt Christmas Eve when they got the call about a horrible crash.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, 19 year old Matt Teschner was returning home Tuesday evening on Highway 60 northeast of Globe when he missed a turn and plunged upwards of a 1,000 feet down a steep cliff in the Salt River Canyon.

Teschner was killed in the crash, his girlfriend, 19 year old Kimberly Montoyo, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a Phoenix area hospital.

Officers say they were heading back to Tucson after a day of snowboarding in the white mountains.

Friends of the young couple have started a Facebook page to show their love and support to this energetic and very much loved young couple.
