TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) -

Two people are dead following a shooting in the city of Tuskegee, Mayor Johnny Ford confirms.

The victims were shot with a high-powered weapon during a drive-by shooting Friday night, the mayor told WSFA 12 News.

Mayor Ford says the shooting started in the area of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and ended in the area of Howard Road. The victims' identities have not been released at this time. The mayor would only confirm they were "two young people".

Details surrounding the case remain limited, but the mayor says one person is in custody and law enforcement is looking for a second suspect.

Mayor Ford said the Tuskegee Police Department is increasing surveillance and patrols following the incident.

"This is a very serious matter," Mayor Ford said, "another example of gun violence that needs to be addressed. We are making an all out effort to make our community safe."

The case is being investigated by the Tuskegee Police Department and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation. Anyone with information that could help police in this case is asked to call the Tuskegee Police Department at 727-0200.

WSFA 12 News will have more information on this case as it becomes available.
