LEE COUNTY, AL (WSFA) -

The Lee County Sheriff's Department says nearly two months after it opened an investigation into a child's death, authorities are arresting another child in connection to the case.

Sheriff Jay Jones' office says a 14-year-old Beauregard boy is now under arrest and charged with manslaughter in the December 30, 2013 death of a 10-year-old.

The investigation was opened as an accidental shooting case following Coroner Bill Harris' declaration of death that Monday evening.

A preliminary investigation showed that three juveniles were inside a home in the 1300 block of Highway 51 when, around 7:05 p.m., a gun that was being handled went off, fatally injuring the victim.

The victim and suspect's names have not been released.

The sheriff's department says the suspect is scheduled for a hearing in Lee County Court to determine further action. The proceedings are confidential due to the boy's juvenile status.
