MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Helen Keller, a famous and accomplished Alabamian, once said, "Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties."

As we begin 2014 it is common for people to resolve to make changes, improvements, or -- as we typically deem them -- "resolutions" heading into a new year. These resolutions typically include eating better, working out more, reducing stress, traveling, spending more time with family, etc. But, what if we decided that we already had everything needed to be happy and it lies within ourselves, lying dormant until we give ourselves permission to be happy and content with what we have.

Most people don't realize what they have until it's gone, so I ask this of you … why not try making a 2014 resolution to be happy without the trappings of stopping an old or starting a new task?  For a change, resolve to appreciate those positive things that are already in your life and don't look for happiness and/or contentment in something new… but, find it in something you already have.  This is my hope for all of you as we embark on New Year and I wish you all the happiness you so rightly deserve.
