LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A dog belonging to a missing 20-year-old Kentucky woman has been found on the Vegas Strip. The woman's family said they haven't seen her since Dec. 19.

The family of Jena Chisholm started a Facebook page dedicated to their search for her. Her aunt, Jeni McArtor, who is in charge of the Facebook page, said Jena Chisholm was last seen at her home in Florence, KY, where she lives with her father.

McArtor said the father awoke Dec. 20 to a note that read Jena Chisholm was staying with a friend and would return home in time for a doctor's appointment the day after Christmas. She said Chisholm never returned.

McArtor said the family used an app on Jena Chisholm's cell phone to determine that she was recently in the Las Vegas, Albuquerque and Los Angeles areas.

Tom Scheben, spokesman for the Boone County Sheriff's Office in Kentucky, said Jena Chisholm's dog was found tied to a fence outside the Diamond Inn, which is across the street from Mandalay Bay. He said a cleaning crew found the dog inside one of the rooms and put it outside.

"My gut was telling me, based on the motel she was in, something wasn't right," said Melanie Downard, the Las Vegas woman who found Jena Chisholm's dog. She was able to connect with the missing woman's family after conducting an online search. She says the family has arranged for the dog to be flown back to Kentucky on Friday.

"We do not think she would leave her dog behind willingly," said McArtor, who described Jena Chisholm as an animal lover. She said the abandoned dog coupled with the fact that Jena Chisholm had recently began undergoing evaluations for a mental illness has the family concerned for her safety.

"She doesn't have her dog. I don't know where she is. I don't know what she's doing. I don't know what can help find her," Tina Chisholm, Jena Chisholm's mother, said in a phone interview. She said wants her daughter to know that her family just wants to know she is OK.

Officer Laura Meltzer of Las Vegas Metro police said they have been asked for help in the search for Jena Chisholm by the Boone County Sheriff's Office. She said she did not have any other information about the case to release.

Jena Chisholm was described as white, 5'1" tall and 110 pounds, with light blond hair and brown eyes. According to the flyer, Jena Chisholm is believed to be driving a 2006 powder-blue Volkswagen Beetle, bearing Kentucky license plate number 316-MYB.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Las Vegas Metro police at 702-828-3111.
