LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - At Crittenden Drive and Warnock Street an entire block is boarded up. Plywood covers more than 20 structures, including a former church, and demolition is set for the end of the month.

While the University of Louisville is an obvious neighbor, the university isn't behind the project. However, students will have another option for their home away from home when the new development is completed.

"A private developer purchased all the property along Crittenden in hopes to build student housing development," said Mark Hebert, UofL Director of Media Relations.

Developers HRB Louisville LLC and Denton-Floyd Real Estate Group are leading the project.

"The facility will contain more than 800 beds, top notch security and luxury amenities such as a fitness facility and resort style pool," said Brandon Denton, a project consultant.

"There are a lot of things that we're really good at (at the university)," said Hebert. "There are other things that private individuals and developers can do a whole lot better, like food service and student housing. We've gone from 1,900 students living on campus a few years ago to over 5,000 now. That is a transformation that has taken place in the last 10 years. This is not a commuter school. This is a residential campus."

The project is slated for completion by Fall 2015.
