January 8th memorial announcement Monday

Placement of the memorial commemorating the tragic January 8, 2011 shooting which left six people dead and 13 wounded, will be announced on Monday.

According to several sources, a place will be found on the first floor of the Historic Pima County Courthouse in the downtown Presidio.

The courthouse is being vacated in 2014 when the county moves across the street to its new courthouse.

The county board will take up residence on the second floor of the old facility and the bottom floor will be home to a new western museum.

Now it appears, the January 8 Memorial as well.

Both the city and county governments will approve resolutions next week proclaiming the downtown Presidio as the memorial's home.

In the meantime, effects from January 8 are being displayed in public for the first time.

The downtown County library, the Eckstrom Library on the East side and the Nanini Library on the Northwest, will all have displays put together by the January 8 Foundation.

They will be in place through the month of January.
