HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

With the New Year comes a major change to GED testing.

The General Education Development test evaluates people who have not earned a high school diploma. The GED gives them a certificated of equivalency.

Testing will be more stringent in 2014, not to mention more expensive. The cost more than doubled from $50 to $120. However, if someone takes an approved adult education program, the state will pay for all but $20 of the cost.

"The degree of difficulty has increased, so it's really going to be in everybody's self-interest before they sit for the test," said Chris Miller, Director of Adult Education at Calhoun Community College.

Calhoun offers approved adult education programs on-campus and at several off-campus sites in Limestone, Morgan and Madison Counties.
