Cold air rushing into area with winds over 30mph

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

We are receiving reports of snow flurries across the area. The heavy precipitation has now left, but temperatures are below freezing.

No icy trouble spots on any of the main roads, but we are receiving a few reports of icy patches on secondary roads. Take it easy out there, especially on the bridges and overpasses in outlying areas.

If you parked your car outside be prepared to spend some extra time de-icing. More than likely there may be some ice around your car door and on the wind shield.

Also, watch your step! Several viewers have reported icy and slippery decks and patios this morning.

The Cold Blast 2014 is far from over. Temperatures will continue to tumble through late morning and there is a good chance many areas won't break out of the teens Monday. Wind chills will reach dangerously low levels (-10 to 0) and if precautions are not taken, frost bite could happen in a short amount of time. Winds will continue to gust as high as 35 to 40 mph throughout the day. The coldest temperatures can be expected tonight as lows tumble into the single digit range.

We will have continuing updates at the top and bottom of the hour on Fox 6. We will also have frequent traffic updates on Good Day Alabama which begins at 4:30 AM.
