HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The 48 Storm Team is tracking a powerful arctic front that will bring frigidly cold temperatures and some wintry weather to the Tennessee Valley.

As cold air quickly rushes into the Tennessee Valley, rain will briefly change over to snow tonight. Accumulations will overall be patchy and light. The better chance for a dusting to 1 inch will be in northeast Alabama and southern middle Tennessee, especially in the higher elevations. As temperatures rapidly drop below freezing and into the teens, any leftover moisture will freeze on the roadways causing patchy "black ice". By 9pm, all roads in north Alabama and southern Tennessee could be hazardous. The Monday morning commute will likely be slick.

In addition to some hazardous travel, extremely cold temperatures and dangerously low wind chills will be present for a couple of days. A wind chill warning is in effect through noon on Tuesday for the entire Tennessee Valley to account for subzero wind chills during this stretch.
