The Fox6 StormWarn Team says you can expect the weather to remain dangerously cold for the next few days. It is believed the temperatures will stay below freezing until Wednesday.

"We're expected to stay below freezing for 60 hours. Windchills could reach 10 below; actual temps could hit single digits. We're experiencing some of the lowest temperatures we've reached in decades," said Fox6's Mickey Ferguson.

Monday, the cold weather entered Alabama and many residents reported slight snow flurries and some ice. There were not many reports of accidents or ice on the roadways on Monday morning, but drivers should still exercise caution when driving during the extremely cold weather and be vigilant on bridges and overpasses.

The sun should come out during the day on Monday, but that will not affect the temperature as it will continue to drop during the daytime hours. By Monday night, the temperatures could get into the single digits with a wind chill at 10 below.

Tuesday, the temperature may only reach the low to mid 20s. Overnight into Wednesday, we can expect temperatures in the teens. However, the Fox6 StormWarn team forecasts temperatures in the 40s during the day Wednesday.

If you have friends or family that live alone or are elderly, you should check up on them and make sure they are prepared to handle the cold. Warming stations have also been opened in several areas for those who don't have a place to escape the cold.

There's a chance of a wintry mix on Thursday, but it's very slight. By Saturday, the temps should warm up to the low 60's.
