The search is on for Rafael Reyna III. The Arizona Department of Public Safety says Renya assaulted a DPS motor officer January 1 in the East Valley of the Phoenix metro.

DPS says Reyna was driving eastbound on US 60 near Extension Road around 2:45 a.m. on New Year's Day when he was stopped by the DPS motor officer.

As the officer was arresting Reyna for suspicion of DUI, investigators say Reyna turned around and hit the officer numerous times in the face causing significant damage.

DPS says Reyna then fled the scene in a vehicle with one handcuff still on his left wrist. The vehicle has since been recovered. The motor officer was hospitalized for his injuries and is at home recovering.

DPS says Reyna is a convicted felon and has a history of violence towards law enforcement. He is described as 5'7", 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes and is 25 years old. Rafael Reyna III has numerous tattoos to include multiple tattoos on his face.

The United States Marshal Service, Silent Witness, Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and the Arizona Highway Patrol Association are offering a reward of at least $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Rafael Reyna.

Should you know of his whereabouts, please contact the Arizona Department of Public Safety or Silent Witness. Arizona Department of Public Safety: (602) 223-2212, Silent Witness: (480) 948-6377 or silentwitness.org.
