GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The City of Guntersville is preparing for the arrival of the Bassmaster Classic National Fishing Tournament that is scheduled for next month.

As the mayor put it, "guests are coming," so she asked city departments to begin cleaning up for the event and the expected guests.

A new sign welcomes visitors into town on the north side. The new sign began working Tuesday and counts down the number of days to the Bassmaster Classic.

City officials recently received some help from the state with a 75% matching grant. Those funds will be used to cover work currently underway at the boat launch for the fishermen. New rip-rap, rocks armoring the shoreline, has been put out, and a new base for the parking lot has been completed as they prepare to re-pave the entire ramp area.

Mayor Leigh Dollar said they are excited to have so many visitors who will be coming to town and all the attention the national tournament will bring.

"It's amazing, the free publicity that we are getting from everywhere, that Bassmaster Classic is on Lake Guntersville, Alabama. That's huge; I mean, you can't put a price on that," Dollar said.

Cleanup is really important to the people of Guntersville. City crews will be working near the harbor area doing cleanup,
