Louisiana Traveler - Video shooting tri-copter

Hundreds of people enjoyed the Christmas lights at the Grove in Sulphur over the holidays, but none more than Justin Whitstine.  That's because he flew over and under them... In his radio controlled tri-copter.

"I was driving by here at Christmas and saw all the nice fountains and Christmas lights," Justin recalled.  ‘I said ‘Wow, I'm going to fly around there and get something good.'"

I got in touch with Justin and asked him to show me how he did it.  The camera Justin uses is called Mobius.  It's about the size of a pack of matches and shoots pretty good video.

"For the most part, it'll kind of fly itself," said Justin of the Helicopter.  The wind is making it drift some, but..this is maybe not very convincing.  But it keeps itself level."

Whitstine uses one remote to control all his aircraft.

"It's kind of like a universal remote for your TV.  You buy a nice controller and you can program all your models into that.  Just spend money once and it flies all your stuff."

Whitstine says flying the copter is the most fun.  Editing the video is something else.

"The hardest part is editing the video together to make it look really nice.  The flying took about a half hour.  But it took 6 to 8 hours to edit the video down."
