MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The names are being released of two construction workers who were killed Wednesday in an industrial accident at a bridge construction site in Montgomery County, part of the multi-million dollar Montgomery Outer Loop project.

The victims are 63-year-old David Lee White of Montgomery and 53-year-old Lomax Phillips of Birmingham.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths after the man-lift White and Phillips were in while placing wood under a bracket failed, detached from the side of the bridge, and tumbled more than 90 feet to the ground.

The Alabama Department of Transportation says both were employed by Bessemer-based R.R. Dawson Bridge Company, the project's prime contractor.

ALDOT issued a statement saying it "extends sympathy to the families of the two... who were killed."

The incident happened at Highway 80 East in the county at the new overpass that goes over Interstate 85. That's at mile marker 14 approximately halfway between the Chantilly and Waugh exits of I-85.

At this time the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department is calling this an accidental death investigation. Both bodies were taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.

The bridge is part of the Montgomery Outer Loop project that includes 10 bridges. Four are ramps and the other six are for the re-alignment of Highway 80 and State Route 126. When the project is done it will connect Interstate 65 at Hope Hull to Interstate 85 at Mitylene.

ALDO has temporarily suspended construction on the Outer Loop project for at least the rest of the week. The weather will determine if work will resume next week.
