TUSCALOOSA, AL (WSFA) -

Frigid temperatures across Alabama for the last few nights took their toll on the private home of Alabama's governor, according to reports by WBRC Fox 6 in Birmingham.

Governor Robert Bentley says damage to his home in Tuscaloosa is estimated at more than $50,000 and was caused by broken water pipes frozen in the cold weather.

The governor says a new ceiling, carpet and floors will be needed. He says his insurance, not Alabama tax payers, will cover the damages.

The governor told reporters of the damage while speaking at the Kiwanis Club in Birmingham Wednesday afternoon.

While the governor owns the private home in Tuscaloosa, the official residence of the Governor of the State of Alabama, an early 20th century mansion on Perry Street in Montgomery was not affected.
