LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - WAVE 3 Sports has confirmed that the University of Louisville has offered the head football coaching job to Bobby Petrino, and he is expected to accept.

Final details were expected to be worked out Wednesday night, and an official announcement will be made on Thursday.

The university has called a special meeting of the personnel committee of the University of Louisville Athletic Association at 10 a.m. Thursday in the athletic director's suite on the fifth floor of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. According to the release, the group is expected to discuss a personnel matter at the meeting.

Petrino served as the offensive coordinator under John L. Smith at UofL in 1998 and was the Cards" head coach from 2003 to 2006. He went 41-9 and led UofL to a win in the 2007 Orange Bowl. His 82 percent winning percentage is tops in school history.

Former UofL quarterback Jeff Brohm interviewed with Western Kentucky athletic director Todd Stewart on Tuesday and is expected to replace Petrino in Bowling Green.
