MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -

Political commentator Steve Flowers is becoming a politician again and running for the state's utility regulatory board.

Flowers announced Wednesday that he will run in the Republican primary for the Public Service Commission against incumbent Terry Dunn. He is the fourth candidate to challenge Dunn in the primary June 3.

Flowers is 62 and from Troy. He served 16 years in the Alabama House before becoming a political commentator on TV and a columnist for more than 70 newspapers, mostly weeklies.

Flowers said he wants to continue low utility rates and bring more harmony to the three-member commission.

Others in the race are former Greene County Commissioner Chip Beeker, Alabama Minority GOP Chairman Phillip Brown of Birmingham, and media production company owner Jonathan Barbee of Birmingham.
