NORTHPORT, AL (WBRC) -

Two Northport firefighters were injured while battling a house fire in their city.

It started around 10:15 a.m. at the intersection of 19th Street and 22nd Avenue.

Fire Chief Bart Marshall says a firefighter was hurt when he fell through the floor into a cellar. Northport Fire & Rescue shared through Twitter that the second firefighter, Captain Jerry Pruitt, was injured when he tried to help his colleague.

Their injuries are minor, but they went to DCH for treatment.

It's just another example how how tough the last few days have been.

"We had three crews here now. We had to rotate crews to keep our guys fresh. We had a little bit of trouble of water coming out of the truck, freezing, causing slippery conditions," Marshall said.

Crews also responded to cases of pipes freezing and bursting this week.

Chief Marshall says the fire started in the attic. A family of six was able to escape the blaze.

We'll have more on this story tonight on Fox6 News at 5 and 6.
